Mentors’ Meeting

All DBU faculty are invited to find out more about the DBU Pew College Society and the possibility of being involved in this organization as an academic mentor for our gifted students headed to graduate school (and other notable post-graduation callings).

 

Fall Kick-Off Lunch and Lecture

Monday, September 10, 2001, Norris Dining Room @ 12: 00 pm

All Pew students, prospective Pew students, and Pew faculty mentors are invited to have lunch together and hear a short lecture by Prof. Philip Mitchell on Christian scholarship. Details about the upcoming Pew events for the Fall 2001 semester will also be provided.

 

Books and Coffee Night

Friday, October 19, 2001 @ 5: 30 pm

We will meet in the parking lot between Mahler and Strickland and caravan to two area used book stores, and then on to Café Brazil for coffee and conversation about our book purchases (among other things!).

 

Fall Study Weekend Retreat

Friday and Saturday, November 2, 2001 @ Mt. Lebanon Baptist Encampment

Our fifth annual study weekend featuring a discussion on a 17th century puritan classic by John Flavel, Keeping the Heart. Join us for a stimulating weekend of conversation, community, and a lot of plain old fun! Depart DBU at 5: 00 pm on Friday and return about 4: 00 pm on Saturday afternoon.

 

Fall Lecture with Summer 2001 Institute Fellows

Thursday, November 8, 2001 @ 7: 00 pm, Gaston Chapel

Join us for a special fall lecture and discussion with prolific Baylor University English professor Dr. David L. Jeffrey. His topic is: “Why Grand Narrative Still Matters.”

 

Christmas Dinner Forum

Friday, December 7, 2001 @ 6: 00 pm, at the Naugles’

Our annual end of semester get together for Mexican food, white elephant gifts, and some good conversation about Christian scholarship and graduate school options.

Subscriptions to Books and Culture, and Mars Hill Audio. First come, first served.

An International Interdisciplinary Conference, Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, September 27-29, 2001. Some funds available for travel, tuition, etc.
