Master's Checklist

Three-year Bachelor's Degree

In circumstances where an applicant has received a three-year bachelor's degree from a government recognized non-US institution, DBU will consider the three- year bachelor's degree as sufficient to meet the undergraduate degree requirement needed for application to graduate programs.

Prerequisite Courses

If you studied outside of the US, you will be asked to provide a credential
evaluation of your undergraduate studies to verify if you have already completed the prerequisite courses in your major field of study. In certain cases, a student may be required to enroll in prerequisite courses to make up any deficiencies in the major field of study. (Click here for a list of approved credential evaluation companies that we accept.)

Note: Contact your admissions counselor to find out what "official" documentation is
required in your country.

Special Note

ESL Certification: To apply for Teaching English as a Second Language,
you must submit a passing TOEFL score.  No other method will be accepted.
Teaching Certification: To apply for a program that offers Teaching
Certification, you must submit a passing TOEFL score before you may take
the certification exam.  No other method will be accepted.

6.   Statement of Purpose (typed paragraph responses; answer the following four (4) questions minimum 150 words each):
      Describe your main academic interests, academic strengths,

          and academic limitations at this time. Explain any special

          circumstances to be considered in the application process.
      Explain why you wish to study for this degree in this

          particular field.
      Explain why you have chosen Dallas Baptist University.
      Specify what you personally hope to accomplish during

          your program.

English Training Only ("IEP Only")

Intensive English Program (IEP) is a program that prepares students to study academically in the English language. If a student just wants to improve their English here at DBU but does not want to continue in academic studies, this section will help with the application requirements.

If a student is interested in studying as an undergraduate or graduate student after they complete their English training here at DBU, they should apply using the Undergraduate / Master's Checklist

Applicants do not need to submit proof of English level. They will take a placement test during IEP orientation to determine their English level.

English Requirement Checklist

Applicants must meet ONE of the following:

1. TOEFL: Provide an official TOEFL score (Test of English as a Foreign Language- DBU      Institution Code is 6159)
  1. Undergraduate:
    • Minimum Internet Based Score - 71
    • Minimum Paper Based Score - 525
    • Minimum Computer Based Score - 197
  2. Master's:
    • Minimum Internet Based Score - 79
    • Minimum Paper Based Score- 550
    • Minimum Computer Based Score - 213
2. IELTS: Provide an official IELTS score (Intensive English Language Testing System)
  1. Undergraduate:
    • Overall band score of 5.5 with no individual band lower than 5
  2. Master's:
    • Overall band score of 6 with no individual band lower than 5

3. IEP at DBU: Complete the Intensive English Program (IEP) at DBU. You may be dually accepted into an academic program and into our English program, or you can apply to study IEP only.

4. 24 Credit Hours: The TOEFL, IELTS, or IEP program may be waived at the discretion of the director of International Admissions if 24 credit hours with a minimum GPA completed at other regionally accredited institutions in the United States. International students may be interviewed and tested by DBU staff to determine their ability to communicate effectively in English.

  1. Undergraduate minimum GPA = 2.5
  2. Master's minimum GPA = 3.0

Note: The following countries are not required to prove English Ability :

United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada (except Quebec), South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, British Caribbean Islands, Belize, and English speaking countries in the West Indies upon appeal to committee and approval by Director of International Admissions (Jamaica, etc).

Immigration Documents for F-1 Visa Checklist

1. Certified Copy of Passport Identification Page(s) can be certified in our office

2. Joint Certificate of Financial Responsibility (Click here to download)
     The applicant's sponsor must certify the ability and intent to support the applicant during      his/her entire stay at Dallas Baptist University. There are different amounts for      undergraduate, graduate, and IEP only students. DBU requires legible copies of
     financial documents that are less than 6 months old.

3. Transferring F-1 visa from US University
     The following additional documents will be required if you are transferring your I-20 to      DBU:

      1. Status letter from current SEVIS approved school indicating F-1 status or proof of 
           other USCIS approved visa status. (Status Letter for Transfer Students)

      2. Certified Copy of:

  • Visa,
  • I-94 and
  • I-20 if in F-1 status

4. Dependent Requirements (F-2 Visa)
    To bring a spouse, child, or both, the following documents must be submitted in order for     DBU to issue F-2 I-20s needed to apply for F-2 visas.


    Spouse

  • Copy of passport identification page(s)
  • Copy of marriage certificate

    Dependent (children up to age 21)

  • Copy of passport identification page(s)
  • Birth certificate(s)

    Financial documentation is required to show sufficient funds to cover additional living     expenses for each dependent must be submitted at time of application. (See above #2:     "Joint Certificate of Financial Responsibility")

    Note: Dependent family members may apply for a visa either at the same time as the     student (F-1 holder) or subsequent to the student's interview. If applying at a different
    time the embassy will also require a photocopy of F-1 holder's passport, visa and I-20.

Medical and Housing Documents Checklist

1. All Students (click here to download "Medical Form")

Proof of Negative Tuberculosis Testing - must be dated within two years of registration at DBU.

Proof of Meningitis Vaccine

2. For DBU Housing Applicants Only

Residence Hall Application
The Residence Hall application needs to be fully completed by students who will reside in DBU housing. This document should be completed at least one week before you leave your country.

Report of Medical History
It is essential that this form be completed with a medical doctor's signature. All immunizations listed with the immunization dates. Medical costs in the U.S. are expensive, it saves time and money to fully document this form in your home country. This document should be completed at least one week before you leave your country.

Transfer Credit From Non-US University College

If you would like to transfer your credits from a university outside the United States, Dallas Baptist University will ONLY consider the recommendations made by the following independent credential evaluation services. You will need to order a course-by-course evaluation and have it sent directly to us.
