Medical insurance is required for all F-1 visa international students at Dallas Baptist University.
Enrollment in the mandatory Dallas Baptist University plan is automatic at the time of registration,
and the
cost of the policy will appear on your student account as semester student insurance.

The fall insurance premium appears on the fall semester student account; the premiums for
spring and summer coverage are combined on the spring semester student account. If summer
is your first semester, a summer charge will be applied to your student account.

Health coverage is provided through Academic Health Plans. In addition to health insurance the
student policy covers medical evacuation and repatriation of remains in case of death. The
complete insurance
brochure is available at Academic Health Plans.

Health insurance purchased from a private company will not be accepted in lieu of the mandatory
DBU student insurance policy. The insurance advisor will evaluate previously existing policies on
a case by case basis. Please see the links below for information about health insurance waivers.

Separate coverage is available for a student's dependents living with the student in the U.S. There
is an additional charge for this coverage.  Coverage must be purchased from Academic Health
Plans (not through DBU). If a dependent arrives in the United States after the initial 2 week period,
the student may purchase coverage for the dependent after the dependent's arrival.   The plan will
not cover conditions that existed prior to the purchase of coverage
(pre-existing conditions).

The plan is also available to students who have graduated and are on Optional Practical Training
(OPT).  Students will need to talk to the Insurance Advisor,
jennifer@dbu.edu, to enroll in the plan.
