Worship Studies at DBU:
Today, Christian worship is again redefining itself through new and refreshing tools of religious expression in music, art, and drama, blending traditional and ancient worship practices with new music and creative technologies, all of which enhance the worship experience. Every Christian generation is charged with the challenge of educating and training the next generation of worship leaders who will serve the Christian community in the future. As an institution committed to developing servant-leaders to serve our churches, Dallas Baptist University continually reevaluates our church music programs to ensure their relevancy to the needs of our Baptist constituency and other churches which look to DBU for ministry leadership and development.
The DBU Bachelor of Musical Arts (BMA) degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (with a worship studies emphasis) provides a strong music core along with the essential courses needed for a comprehensive training in church music and worship studies, and additional courses in Christian Ministry including Christian studies, theology, and/or communication technology. The elective options in this degree are wide open. This degree is designed to equip the modern church musician with the skills and competencies needed for effective ministry service in the local church, and also prepares the student to pursue the Master of Music degree in seminary or graduate school.
DBU also offers the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Music Business with an emphasis in Worship Leadership. This degree is also interdisciplinary, providing a practical education in business administration, music business, and essential music fundamentals in addition to the course studies in church music and worship. The student in the Music Business/Worship Leadership track receives the same course instruction in church music and worship taken in the BMA program identified above. This degree is designed to prepare the student interested in a career in all styles of worship, with a nod to contemporary worship leadership and ministry.
