Richard Baca (

A native of Puerto Rico, Richard Baca has served on the faculty in DBU's Department of Music since 1983. Previously, he taught on the piano faculty of the University ot Texas at El Paso.

Dr. Baca holds a B.M. in Piano Performance, a M.S. from the Juilliard School, and a D.M.A. in Piano from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. At DBU, he teaches piano, courses in the Fine Arts/Humanities, and has served as Program Head for the Keyboard Division.  He has given many public performances, including solo appearances with the San Antonio Symphony as well as a six week concert tour of the Republic of China on Taiwan.  Recently, Dr. Baca co-developed and co-wrote a new online course for DBU entitled Fine Arts in East Asia.

Dr. Baca is also active in university governance having served on and chaired many campus committees including the S.A.C.S. Self-Study Steering Committee.  He served as president of the University Faculty Council from 2003 to 2005.
