Kelly holds a B.F.A from the University of Texas at Austin and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a M.A. in Art and Technology from the University of Texas at Dallas.
In the nineties, Kelly was the lead vocalist and primary songwriter for the band franklyScarlet. franklyScarlet received national airplay and garnered interest from major record labels.
Kelly has won songwriting awards from Billboard and Musician magazines, and has been honored with guest invitations to the Kerrville Folk Festival and Telluride New Folk Festival. She can be heard as the voice on CNN, and various television and radio commercials. She has performed with Bonnie Raitt and Sarah McLachlan, and has opened for David Bowie, Joan Osborne, Lisa Loeb, Earth, Wind and Fire, and others. Her music has had national radio airplay, been played on NBC's Dateline as well as the soundracks for various indie films.
Frustrated with the music business and domination of corporate radio, Kelly launched a solo effort in 2005 inspired by her own experiences. A visual artist, writer and musician, Kelly follows her instinct to marry image and sound in an effort to create a new vehicle for her music. The result is Local Honey - an art and entertainment entity that is both a website gallery and a musical group that performs multi-media shows. As the curator and producer of such shows, the intention is to create alternative venues that do not impose the boundaries and restrictions often placed on artists by labels, galleries, publishers and other corporate entities.
