The Purpose of Student Financial Aid
While the primary responsibility for meeting college costs lies with students and parents, for some students and families the cost of attending college can be almost too great to manage alone. Therefore, the purpose of Student Financial Aid is to
find and provide supplemental resources for students who would find it a financial difficulty to pursue higher education without assistance. Further, Student Financial Aid is meant to assist eligible students in obtaining financial aid so they may achieve their educational and career goals.
Student Financial Aid can be used to pay tuition, fees, books, supplies and some living expenses.
There are many types of financial aid available. Among the various aid programs are grants and scholarships - which do not require repayment. Loans, a form of self help aid - do require repayment. State and Federal Work study are available for qualified students. As well, there are many institutional aid programs available for students who meet the criteria to receive them.
To be certain Student Financial Aid is in place by the time classes start, it is always suggested applications be completed and submitted early in the year. So plan ahead. In most cases the financial aid process is takes about 6 weeks from start to finish, but it can take up to three months.
Cost of Attendance, Student Fees, Balances and other Account Questions are not handled by the Office of Financial Aid and should be directed to the Cashier's Office (214-333-5108) or cashier@dbu.edu.
