Men's Golf Finish as NCCAA National Champions

Tournament Results

The Dallas Baptist University Patriots Golf Team finished off the third and final round of the NCCAA Men’s Golf Championship Tournament in record setting fashion as they held onto their lead to become NCCAA National Champions.  This is the first NCCAA National Title in Patriot Golf history.  The tournament was held at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City, Florida.  DBU turned in a team total of 880 (+16) for the tournament, claiming first place by 12 strokes over Malone University.  DBU Head Coach Kenny Trapp was named 2009 NCCAA National Coach of the Year.

The Patriots were led throughout the tournament by Freshman Will Dusenbury who led the entire tournament after the first two rounds, and finished second place individually with rounds of 67, 71, and 76.  Dusenbury finished with a tournament total of 214, which was only two strokes out of first place.

Senior Bennett Smith played consistent shooting a round of 69 then followed with a 74 in each of the last two rounds to claim third place individually.  Freshman Calvin Clyde was eight over par for the tournament as he finished tied for ninth place with rounds of 76, 74, and 74. 

Junior Nic Tacher finished tied for 14th place individually with rounds of 75, 74, and 77, while Sophomore Brandon Johnson rounded out the Patriot scorers tied for 37th place with a tournament total of 234.

With the win, DBU caps off their fall season in dramatic fashion with two first place and one second place finish in their last three tournaments, with one being a NCCAA National Title.

Rounds One and Two Results

The Dallas Baptist University Patriots Golf Team looks for their first NCCAA Men's Golf Championship title as they lead the NCCAA National Championship Tournament by 10 strokes.  After recording a one under par total of 287 in the first round, DBU completed the suspended second round this morning with a score of 293 for a 580 total entering the final round this afternoon.  Freshman Will Dusenbury leads DBU's charge and the tournament individually with a six under total of 138. 

Senior Bennett Smith followed up his first round of 69 with a 74 for a two round total of 143.

The final round is set to start at 10:30 AM (CST) at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City, FL.  This marks the fifth year that this event has been conducted at The Hombre and it was announced on Sunday that an extended agreement has been developed to make Panama City the site through 2012.



Patriots Ranked 9th in the Country and Lead NCCAA National Championships

Day One Results

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Men’s Golf Team has climbed up the national rankings to ninth in the country for the first time in DBU Patriot Golf history.  The Patriot’s were previously ranked 23rd by Golfstat Head-to-Head rankings, but moved up after placing first and second in the past two tournaments.

DBU has carried their confidence into the NCCAA National Championship on Monday as they sit atop the leader board after the first day of action at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City, Florida.  The Patriots turned in a team total of 287 in round one with Freshman Will Dusenbury leading the way as he shot a five under 67 to lead the tournament individually. 

Senior Bennett Smith is right on the heels of Dusenbury in second place individually as he shot a round of 69.  Junior Nic Tacher and Freshman Calvin Clyde shot rounds of 75 and 76 to sit in 16th and 21st place individually with Sophomore Brandon Johnson rounding out the Patriot’s with a round of 82.

The Patriots were unable to finish round two on Monday due to darkness, but will play the final hole on Tuesday before beginning the third and final round.  



Patriots Golf Ranked 23rd in the Nation

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Men’s Golf Team has made their presence known in Division II Men’s Golf as they have received their first national ranking of during the 2009 season.  Golfstat has placed the Patriots 23rd in the nation.   

DBU has brought confidence and desire into the start of the 2009-2010 season, after their historical success during the 2008-2009 season.  The Patriots started the year off with a 9th place finish at the Charles Coody West Texas Invite in Abilene, Texas, before defeating St. Edward’s University in a one-hole playoff at The Territory Classic to claim first place overall as a team.  DBU followed their first place victory with another podium finish as they claimed 2nd place in the Bruce Williams Memorial Invite in San Antonio, Texas, on September 29, 2009.

After stringing together a successful two weeks the Patriots were awarded national recognition as they were named the 23rd best Division II golf team in the country by Golfstat.

The Patriots are back in action on October 11-13, 2009, as they travel to Panama City, Florida, to compete in the NCCAA Championships at the Hombre Golf Club.  



Patriot Golf Finishes Second Place in Bruce Williams Memorial Invite

Tournament Results

The Dallas Baptist University Men’s Golf Team finished the Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational Tournament in second place as they turned in a daily low of 291 in the third and final round on Tuesday.  The 17-team tournament was hosted by St. Mary’s University at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas. 

The Patriots turned in a team total in round one of 297 and 296 in round two for a tournament team total of 593 heading in the final round only six strokes out of second place.

In the final round, DBU was able to record a team total of 291, which boosted the Patriots past Abilene Christian University for their second straight top two finish.

Freshman Will Dusenbury led the Patriots in the tournament shooting a tournament total of 218 recording a 71 in round one and a 73 in round two.  He finished the final round with a 74. Dusenbury finished tied for 9th place individually.  Senior Bennett Smith was close behind after turning in rounds of 76, 71, and 73 for a total 220 to finish tied for 14th place.

Sophomore Brandon Johnson, Junior Nic Tacher, and Freshman Calvin Clyde all finished in the mix as they recorded tournament totals of 222 (74,77,71), 225 (77,75,73), and 231 (76,77,78) respectively.  Johnson ended the tournament in 21st place, with Tacher tied for 29th and Clyde tied for 47th individually.

The Patriots are back in action on October 11-13, 2009, as they travel to Panama City, Florida, to compete in the NCCAA Championships at the Hombre Golf Club.



Patriots Golf in Third Place to Begin Final Round

Day One Results

The Dallas Baptist University Men’s Golf Team finished day one of the Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational Tournament in third place as they played 36 holes at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, TX.  The 17-team tournament is hosted by St. Mary’s University who sits in first place after day one.  The Patriots turned in a team total in round one of 297 and a 296 in round two for a team total of 593 which was good enough for third place.  DBU heads into the final round only six strokes out of second place.

Freshman Will Dusenbury led the Patriots in the first two rounds shooting a two round total of 144 with a 71 in round one and a 73 in round two.  Dusenbury sits tied for 11th place individually.  Senior Bennett Smith was close behind after turning in rounds of 76 and 71 for a total 147 to sit tied for 16th place.

Sophomore Brandon Johnson, Junior Nic Tacher, and Freshman Calvin Clyde are in the mix as they recorded two round totals of 151 (74,77), 152 (77,75), and 153 (76,77) respectively.

The Patriots look to continue their success in the final 18 holes of the tournament, which is set for Tuesday morning.



Patriot Golf Pulls Off Tournament Victory in First Playoff Hole

Tournament Results

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Golf Team won their second overall team title in school history on Tuesday as they defeated Heartland Conference rival St. Edward’s University in a one hole playoff.  The 17 team tournament was hosted by Cameron University at The Territory Classic Golf Tournament in Duncan, Oklahoma, on Monday, September 21 and Tuesday, September 22.  The Patriots turned in a team total of 578 for the two day tournament, which is the lowest 36 hole total in Patriot Golf history.

DBU ended round one on Monday only one stroke behind St. Edward’s, as the Patriots recorded a team total of 291.  After a two hour rain delay on Tuesday, the Patriots finished the tournament strong in record setting fashion as they recorded a team total of 287 in the final round for the lowest daily total in Patriot Golf history.  After the final round, DBU and SEU were tied, and after a one-hole playoff, the Patriots were victorious claiming the first team title in the 2009-2010 season with a team total of 578. 

Three Patriots placed in the top five individually in the win with Junior Nic Tacher leading the way throughout to finish second individually.  Tacher turned in rounds of 71 and 70 for a 141 tournament total only to miss the overall individual title by one stroke to Alex Carpenter from Abilene Christian University. 

Sophomore Brandon Johnson and Freshman Will Dusenbury each finished the tournament even par turning in a tournament totals of 144 to finish tied for fifth place individually.  Johnson was consistent as he shot a 72 in each of the two rounds, as Dusenbury turned in a 71 on day one and a 73 on day two.

Senior Bennett Smith and Freshman Calvin Clyde rounded out the Patriots, turning in tournament totals of 149 and 161 respectively.  Smith finished tied for 20th place with rounds of 77 and 72, while Clyde finished tied for 75th place with rounds of 80 and 81.

The Patriots are back in action on September 27-29 as they travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the St. Mary’s Classic Golf Tournament, hosted by St. Mary’s University.  The tournament will be held at the Dominion Country Club.



Patriot Golf Sits One Stroke Off Lead

Day One Results

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Golf Team finished day one of the The Territory Classic Golf Tournament in Duncan, Oklahoma, only one stroke off the lead.  The Patriots turned in a team total of 291, leaving them only one stroke behind first place, St. Edward’s Unviersity.

Junior Nic Tacher and Sophomore Brandon Johnson led the Patriots in day one as they each turned in rounds of 71.  Tacher and Johnson move into day two tied for second place individually. 

Freshman Will Dusenbury, in his second collegiate tournament, finished day one tied for seventh place individually as he turned in a round of 72.  Senior Bennett Smith and Freshman Calvin Clyde rounded out the Patriots turning in rounds of 77 and 80 respectively.

The Patriots continue action on Tuesday as they look to overtake Heartland Conference rival, the St. Edward’s University Hilltoppers, who sit in first place overall.

Complete Tournament Results

The Patriot Golf Team opened up the 2009 season as they competed in the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate golf tournament on Monday, September 14 and Tuesday September 15 in Abilene, Texas, at the Diamondback Golf Club.  The Patriots turned in a two-day team total of 583 to give them a ninth place finish.

Senior Bennett Smith led the way for the Patriots, as he turned in a two-day total of 139 for the lowest ever two-day total for a Patriot golfer.  On day one, Smith recorded a round of 70 to put DBU in fifth place at the end of day one.  Then Smith added a round of 69 on day two to finish tied for fourth place individually only one stroke out of first place.

Freshmen Will Dusenbury (75, 73) and Sophomore Brandon Johnson (74,74) each turned in a two-day total of 148 to tie them for 42nd place individually while Freshman Calvin Clyde finished 45th individually with a two-day total of 149.  Clyde turned in a 73 on day one and a 76 on day two.

Senior Nic Tacher rounded out the Patriot scorers, as he turned in a round of 76 on day one and 75 on day two for a 151 total to finish tied for 53rd place individually.

The Patriots ended the tournament in ninth place as a team, only 13 strokes off of the first place Newman University Jets.

The Patriots are back in action on September 20-22 as they travel to Duncan, Oklahoma to compete at the Cameron University Invitational.  The tournament will be hosted by Cameron University at the Territory Golf Club.


2009 Men's and Women's Golf Spring Review

The Patriot Men’s team finished their historical 2008-2009 season with a birth to the NCAA Division II Super-Regional Tournament.  This marked the first ever selection into postseason play for the Patriots as they finished the tournament in 14th place.  The team achieved numerous records during the 2008-2009 season, including a first place finish at the St. Edward’s Invitational, which was the first team victory in DBU Golf history, as well as breaking tournament team lows numerous times during the year, and nine top 10 team finishes.

The Patriots were led by newcomer Freshman Seth Stuart, as he ended the season with four top three individual finishes, including one coming in the Heartland Conference Tournament to lead the team to a third place finish.  Stuart made DBU history for himself as he recorded the lowest individual tournament score at the conference tournament shooting a 208, only four strokes out of an individual conference title.

Stuart and Junior Bennett Smith were both honored by the Heartland Conference for their play during the season, with each player being named Second Team All-Conference, and Stuart being awarded conference Freshman of the Year.

The Lady Patriot Golf team, in its fourth year of existence, has competed as true contenders at the NCAA Division II level and in the Heartland Conference.  The Lady Patriots competed in several tournaments throughout the 2008-2009 season finishing in the top 10 on eight different occasions, including a fifth place finish in both the DBU Classic and Oklahoma Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.

The Lady Patriots were led throughout the season by Junior Heather Wilbur, who finished the season with three, top five individual finishes, and represented the Lady Patriots in the NCAA Division II Super-Regional as the first ever DBU female athlete to achieve this mark.  Wilbur started the season off with a fifth place finish at the Drury University Fall Shootout.  She finished the regular season play with a first place finish in the Tarleton State Coca-Cola Classic and a third place finish in the Heartland Conference Tournament.  Wilbur concluded her 2008-2009 season with a first ever regional birth in Lady Patriot Golf history.  Wilbur finished the NCAA Division II Super-Regional in 11th place.

Wilbur and Sophomore Kristen Tucker were both honored by the Heartland Conference for their play during the season, with Wilbur being named All-Conference First Team, and Tucker being named All-Conference Second Team.

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Men’s Golf Team wrapped up their 2009 season finishing 14th at the NCAA Division II Central Super Regional Golf Tournament in Allendale, Michigan, hosted by Grand Valley State.  The Patriots finished with a total team score of 896, only four strokes out of 11th place.

Junior Bennett Smith is led the Patriots throughout the tournament turning in rounds of 76, 71, and 74 for a total score of 221 to finish tied for 28th place individually.

Freshman Seth Stuart is tied for 50th place, turning in a rounds of 77, 74, and 73 for a total score of 224.

Senior Brad Howard finished tied for 60th place with a total score of 226 with rounds of 79, 71, and 76.  Senior Connor Smith posted rounds of 78, 75, and 77 to finish his DBU golf career finishing in 82nd place overall. 

Junior Nic Tacher led the way for the Patriots through round one finishing the day with a score of 74.  On day two, Tacher  turned in a round of 80, to sit in 86th place going into the final round.  Tacher shot a 77 on the third and final round to finish tied for 88th place.

Junior Heather Wilbur turned in a round of 80 in the first round of the NCAA Division II West Super Regional in Omaha, Nebraska.  Wilbur headed into round two tied for 16th place individually.  In round two, Wilbur was able to break into the top ten individual scorers as she turned in round of 79 to end the day in 9th place.  In the third and final round, Wilbur shot a round of 84, which was good enough for an 11th place finish in her first ever NCAA DII Regional.

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Men’s Golf Team has wrapped up their first two rounds in the NCAA Division II Central Super-Regional with a team total score of 596 to sit in 12th place.  The Patriots moved up from 18th place, as they shot a team total of 291 on day two, which bettered their day one score by 14 strokes.

Junior Bennett Smith is leading the Patriots through two rounds and is tied for 28th place. He turned in a round of 76 on day one and even par in the second round, 71.  Senior Brad Howard bounced back on day two after a round of 79 on day one turning in an even par round of 71, sitting tied for 49th place.

Freshman Seth Stuart is tied for 62th place, turning in a rounds of 77 and 74. Senior Connor Smith posted rounds of 78 and 75 to head into the third and final round tied for 78th place. 

Junior Nic Tacher led the way for the Patriots through round one finishing the day with a score of 74.  On day two, Tacher  turned in a round of 80 to sit in 86th place going into the final round.

The Patriots will have an early tee time on Wednesday morning starting at 8:20 a.m. eastern time, as they compete in the third and final round of the regional tournament.

Junior Heather Wilbur turned in a round of 80 in the first round of the NCAA Division II West Super Regional in Omaha, Nebraska.  Wilbur headed into round two tied for 16th place individually.  In round two, Wilbur was able to break into the top ten individual scorers as she turned in round of 79 and end the day in 9th place.

Wilbur is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m. central time.

Patriots Receive All-Heartland Conference Honors and Freshman of the Year

The Dallas Baptist University Men’s Golf Team received individual honors when the All-Heartland Conference Teams were announced on Sunday, April 26.

Freshman Seth Stuart was named to the All-Heartland Conference Second Team for his play during the 2009 season.  Stuart also received the Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year honor.  Stuart finished in the top ten in five out of the Patriot’s nine tournaments.  He placed eighth in the Coker College Spring Invitational, and third place in four different tournaments including the Heartland Conference Tournament where he posted the Patriots lowest three round total in DBU History.  Stuart turned in a 72 for round one and a 68 in each of the next two rounds to finish with an individual total of 208, setting the lowest tournament total in DBU golf history.

Junior Bennett Smith was also named to the All-Heartland Conference Second Team.  Smith finished in the top ten twice during the 2009 season.  He placed second in the NCCAA Championship and ninth in the St. Edward’s Invitational Tournament.

The Patriots are back in action on May 4-6, when they travel to Allendale, Michigan, to compete in the 2009 Division II Central Region Tournament, at The Meadows Golf Club, hosted by Grand Valley State University.   



Patriots Men's Golf Receives First Ever Regional Bid

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Men’s Golf Team made history in the 2009 season, as they received a regional bid to compete in the Division II Central Region Tournament.  With the bid, the Patriots are the first Golf team to make a regional in DBU school history. 

The tournament will be held on May 4-6, in Allendale, Michigan, at The Meadows Golf Club and hosted by Grand Valley State University.    

Along with the regional bid, the Patriots have seen great improvements in the past year setting record lows throughout the year.  The Patriots turned in their lowest round of the year this past weekend in the Heartland Conference Tournament, where they finished tied for third place and posted a one round team total of 288.

Freshman Seth Stuart also set a individual DBU record low, when he shot a three round total of 208 in the Heartland Conference Tournament.

The Central Region Tournament will consist of a three-day, three round tournament including 20 schools, seeded one through 20, playing a 54-hole tournament, 18 holes per day.  The Midwest Region and South Central Region will come together to form the Central Regional Tournament.  

The top five teams in the regional tournament will advance to Division II National Tournament held on May 19-22, in Blaine, Washington, at Loomis Trail Golf Club, hosted by Western Washington University.

"I cannot explain how happy I am for these young men.  They have truly poured their hearts and souls into this golf program.  As a program, we pride ourselves in being the hardest working team in the country, and it has paid off, they definitely deserve this regional bid.  To play golf for the glory of Christ is what it is all about, and now we get to do it at the Division II South Central Regional Championship,” Head Coach Kenny Trapp said.



Stuart Leads Patriots to 3rd Place Finish in Heartland Conference Tournament

The Patriots Men’s Golf Team competed in the Heartland Conference Golf Tournament on Monday, April 20 and Tuesday, April 21, in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, at the Slick Rock Golf Club.  The Patriots turned in a three round total of 866 tying them for 3rd place with Newman University at only two over par for the tournament.

Freshman Seth Stuart made the school record books as he shot the lowest three round total in DBU golf history over the two day tournament.  Stuart started the tournament off with a solid first round of 72 before following it up with rounds of 68 in each of the following two rounds to end the tournament tied for 3rd place individually with a total score of 208, eight under par.

Junior Bennett Smith finished tied for 14th place turning in rounds of 72, 72, and 74 for a total three round total of 218, two over par.  Senior Brad Howard tied for 17th place with rounds of 76, 73, and 71 to end the tournament with a three round total of 220, four over par.

Senior Connor Smith finished eleven over par as he turned in a three round total 227, with rounds of 74, 77, and 76.  Junior Nic Tacher turned in an impressive 70 in round one, and a 76 in round two, but was not able to finish due to an illness.

With the Heartland Conference 3rd place finish, the Patriots are hopeful for a bid to compete in the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament.  Selections will be made on Thursday, April 23, 2009. 



Patriots Men's Golf in 3rd Place After Day-One

Day-One Results

The Patriot Men’s Golf Team has completed day one of the Heartland Conference Golf Tournament on Monday in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, at Slick Rock Golf Club.  The Patriots recorded a record low for Dallas Baptist University, turning in a team total of 288 in round one.  At the conclusion on the day the Patriots sit in third place only a single stroke behind St. Mary’s University.

Round two of the tournament was postponed due to darkness and will resume Tuesday morning before the start of the third and final round.

Junior Nic Tacher is leading the Patriot charge after round one as he turned in a round of 70 good enough to leave him tied for 5th place.

Freshman Seth Stuart and Junior Bennett Smith both shot rounds of 72 to leave them tied for 10th place after round one, while Seniors Connor Smith and Brad Howard rounded out the Patriot scorers turning in rounds of 74 and 76  respectively.  Connor Smith is tied for 19th place, while Howard is sitting tied for 23rd place.

Men’s Golf Takes 10th in Kickingbird Classic

The Dallas Baptist University Men’s Golf Team traveled to Edmond, Oklahoma, and competed in the Kickingbird Classic Golf Tournament hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma at Kickingbird Golf Club.  The three round tournament was held on Monday, April 6 and continued through Tuesday, April 7.  The tournament was compiled of 18 teams including four teams from the Heartland Conference.  The Patriots finished in 10th place with a total team score of 911.

The Patriots were led by Senior Brad Howard who finished tied for 30th place in the tournament turning in rounds of 74, 75, and 76, for a total score of 225.  Freshman Seth Stuart was right on Howard’s heels finishing on one stroke behind, good enough to tie for 34th place.  Stuart turned in a three round total of 226 shooting 72, 79, and 75.

Junior Bennett Smith finished tied for 43rd place scoring rounds of 73 and 80 on day one and turning in a round of 76 on day two for a total score of 229.

Senior Connor Smith and Junior Nic Tacher rounded out the Patriots scorers both tying for 66th place with total scores of 235.  Connor Smith turned in rounds of 78, 82, and 75, while Tacher finished with rounds of 78, 78, and 79 to help the Patriots to a 10th place finish.

With the finish, the Patriots look for their first regional ranking of the year before heading into the Heartland Conference tournament.

The Patriots are bank in action on April 19-21 when they travel to Horseshoe Bay, Texas, to compete in the Heartland Conference Tournament at the Horseshoe Bay Resort.



Patriots Finish 7th in DBU Patriot Classic

The Dallas Baptist University Men’s Golf Team hosted the DBU Patriot Classic Golf Tournament on Monday, March 30 through Tuesday, March 31.  The tournament was compiled of 13 teams including four from the Heartland Conference including DBU, St. Mary’s University, the University of the Incarnate Word, and Texas A&M International.  The Patriots finished in seventh place in the three round tournament with a total team score of 916.

Two rounds were played on Monday and the third and final round was played on Tuesday.  The Patriots were led by Senior Brad Howard who finished in 17th place with a three round total of 224.  Howard started the tournament off with a round 76 in both of the first two rounds, and then turned in a solid final round, team low of 72.

Junior Bennett Smith finished tied for 23rd place with rounds of 80, 75, and 73, to finish with a three round total of 228.  Freshman Seth Stuart turned in rounds of 78, 77, and 77, and finished tied for 37th place with Senior Justin Upton close behind tying for 41st place.  Upton had a three-day total of 233 with rounds of 81, 73, and 79.  Senior Cameron Nofi rounded out the Patriots scorers finishing in 56th place turning in rounds of 82, 76, and 85, for a tournament total 243.

Freshman Brandon Johnson, Junior Nic Tacher, and Senior Connor Smith played as individuals for the Patriots in the tournament.  Johnson finished tied for 25th place with rounds of 77, 74, and 78.  Tacher had a three-round total of 230, turning in rounds of 73, 83, and 74.  Smith rounded out the DBU Individuals finishing in 49th place as he shot rounds of 77 and 78 on day one, and turned in a round of 82 on day two to finish with a three-round total of 237.

The Patriots are back on the links on April 5 – 7, as they travel to Edmond, Oklahoma, to compete in the Central Oklahoma Invitational Golf Tournament.  The Tournament will be hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma at the Kickingbird Golf Club.

The Patriot Men’s Golf Team traveled to Thackerville, Oklahoma, for a two-day tournament at WinStar Golf Club held by East Central University on Monday, March 9, and Tuesday, March 10.  The Patriots came off a first place victory in the St. Edward’s Invitational in February to finish tied for sixth place with a total team score of 602.

Freshman Seth Stuart led the Patriots with his third individual top three finish of the year.  Stuart finished day one in a round of 74, and came back in day two to turn in a round of 71 to finish tied for 3rd place individually only one shot off the lead.

Senior Cameron Nofi finished only three strokes behind Stuart to end the tournament tied for 9th place.  Nofi posted rounds of 77 and 71 for a total score of 148.  Senior Brad Howard finished seven strokes off the lead ending up tied for 26th place with rounds of 78 and 73 for a two-day total of 151.

Junior Bennett Smith rounded out the top four scorers for DBU tied for 62nd place with a total score of 159, posting a round of 83 on day one, and a 76 on day two.

Redshirt-Freshman Brandon Johnson placed 37th as he was playing as an individual for the Patriots with rounds of 75 and 77 and total score of 152.  Senior Connor Smith finished the tournament tied for 78th place with scores of 82 and 85 for a total score of 167.

The Patriots finished day one with a team total of 311.  The team came on strong in day two to post a 291 on three strokes off the daily low of 288 turned in by Oklahoma Baptist University.

The Patriots are back to the links on March 29-31, at the Golf Club of Dallas, as they will be hosting the DBU Classic Golf Tournament.

The Patriot Men’s Golf team was crowned with their first tournament win in school history on Tuesday, February 24 at the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin, Texas.  The Patriots came out on top defeating the 13 team field with a total team score of 908, which was 13 strokes better than the second place Hilltoppers from St. Edward’s University. 

The Patriots started the tournament out well as Freshman Seth Stuart led the way turning in a rounds of 72 and 76 for his team in the 36 hole first day.  The Patriots sat in first place at the end of day one leading second place by six strokes.

After two rounds in very windy conditions, Stuart (72, 76) sat alone in sixth place and Senior Brad Howard was tied for 11th turning in rounds of 74 and 77.  Junior Bennett Smith (76, 78), Senior Cameron Nofi (76, 80), and Senior Connor Smith (82, 78) all were in the top 50 individuals as they were tied for 21st, 25th, and 44th places respectively after 36 holes.

The Austin wind did not let up for day two, making for another windy round for the men, but the Patriots held onto their lead, and managed to add to it finishing atop the leader board for the first time in school history.  The Patriots played well against Heartland Conference foes beating St. Edward’s University by 13 strokes, St. Mary’s University by 20 strokes, Newman University by 38, and the University of the Incarnate Word by a total of 56 strokes.

Nofi led the Patriots in the final round turning in a 72 to finish tied for ninth place individually with a three round total of 228. 

Stuart led the Patriots for the tournament scoring 224 (72,76, 76) in three rounds tying for a third place individual finish.  Bennett Smith and Nofi tied for 9th place in the field individually scoring 228 for the tournament, while Howard tied for 14th with a individual three round total of 230.  Connor Smith rounded out the Patriot scoring finishing tied for 53rd place individually with 242 total.

The Patriot Men are back in action March 8-10 as they travel to Thackerville, Oklahoma, to compete in the East Central University Invitational at Winstar Golf Club.

The Patriot Men’s Golf Team traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to compete in the Coker College Spring Invitational at Grande Dunes Golf Club on February 9 and 10.  The field included eight universities, including Heartland Conference foes St. Edward’s University and Newman University.  The Patriots brought home a 3rd place finish to start the spring season.

The Patriots finished the first day of stoke play tied with Coker College for second place, scoring a team total of 304.  Freshman Seth Stuart led the Patriots as with a 73 on day one.  Freshman Brandon Johnson, Junior Bennett Smith, Senior Connor Smith, and Senior Justin Upton shot 76, 77, 78, and 86 respectively.  St. Edward’s University led the tournament after the first round as they shot 293 as a team.   

The Patriot men were able to pull away from Coker College on day two of the tournament, but could not overtake St. Edward’s University.  DBU finished with a team score of 306 to complete the tournament with a team total of 610, which put them in 3rd place, only four strokes behind UNC Pembroke (606) in 2nd and St. Edward’s University (585) in 1st.

Connor Smith led the Patriots with a round of 74 on day two to turn in an individual two-day total of 152 to tie for 9th place individually.  Stuart finished in eighth place posting a two-day total of 150 as he turned in a 77 on day two.  Bennett Smith and Johnson both finished the tournament with individual totals of 154 to tie for 14th place as they turned in rounds of 77 and 78 on day two.  Justin Upton rounded out the Patriot scoring tied for 38th place with a two day total of 166.

The Patriots are back in action on February 22-24, 2009, as they travel to Austin, Texas, to play in the St. Edward’s Classic at Grey Rock Golf Club.
