The ability to perform at the highest academic levels is a difficult task for any student, especially as a student-athlete performing at the collegiate level. Seniors Amanda Emmert and Lauren Zegarelli have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Third Team for their success in the classroom as well as on the court.
Emmert has helped lead the Lady Patriots to a 17-15 overall season record for the 2009 season as she libero. So far this season, she leads the team in digs, with 679 and also leads the team with 27 services aces, while maintaining an impressive GPA of 3.83. Emmert is focused on finishing her degree in Business Marketing in May of 2010.
Zegarelli has also been a huge part of the team’s success this season as an outside hitter recording 195 kills, while maintaining a GPA of 3.51. Zegarelli’s major is in Kinesiology, and she also plans to graduate this coming May.
“Amanda Emmert and Lauren Zegarelli represent what DBU is all about. They are Christ-centered young ladies who work hard on the court and in the classroom. They value their relationship with Christ making it their top priority and then emphasize education followed by volleyball. I could not think of any other two young ladies to receive such an honor. They represent our program very well, and are excellent role models for our younger players,” Head Coach Cathy Ray said.
