The Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriot Volleyball Team improved their season record to 17-15 on Thursday night as they defeated Newman University in an intense five set match, 3-2.  With the win, DBU improves to 9-4 in Heartland Conference play.

The Lady Patriots jumped to an early lead, winning the first set 25-22, before the Lady Jets bounced back to grab the next two sets (25-23, 25-18), gaining the lead, 2-1.  DBU was not down and out, as they fought back to win the fourth set (25-15) to force a fifth set tiebreak.

The tiebreak was very tight throughout, with DBU gaining the edge late when Sophomore Claire Stephens blocked a NU attack, giving the Lady Patriots a 13-11 lead.  DBU finished the fifth set with tough defense as they defeated the Lady Jets 15-12 to capture their ninth win in conference.

Sophomore Kaylyn Frink led the Lady Patriots on the offensive side of the ball as she recorded a game high 18 kills as she hit to a .356 hitting average.  Frink also was able to do her part on the defensive side of the net, as she was able to dig 10 NU attacks.  Sophomore Kristin Secord was close behind Frink with 13 kills, hitting for a .267 average.

Seniors Erin Black and Amanda Emmert both had impressive defensive performances for the Lady Patriots as each recorded 21 defensive digs in the win.

The Lady Patriots are back in action on Saturday, November 7, as they welcome Oklahoma Panhandle State University and the University of Arkansas-Ft. Smith to the DBU campus for two matches.  DBU begins the day at 1:00 p.m. against OPSU then finish against UAFS at 6:00 p.m.  OPSU and UAFS will play a match against each other beginning at approximately 3:00 p.m., depending on the finish of the 1:00 p.m. match.
