Senior Austin Knight, who is a member of the Patriot Baseball Team, competed in the 2009 Northwoods League during the 2009 summer offseason for the LaCrosse Loggers, based out of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. At the conclusion of the season, Knight was recognized as one of the top defensive players in the Northwoods League when he was named as a 2009 Rawlings Finest in the Field Award recipient.
This award recognizes the top fielder at each position and is based on final fielding statistics compiled by league statistician Sports-Ticker, a Cheshire, Connecticut based sports statistical service company. Knight was able to keep a .974 fielding average throughout the 2009 season as the Loggers finished the 2009 Northwoods League as South Division Champions.
Each recipient received a special Rawlings baseball glove mounted on an engraved trophy base. To be eligible for the award, a player must have appeared in at least two-thirds (46) of the scheduled games at a given position.
