Brandon Curran enters his fourth year as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Dallas Baptist University. In just three seasons with the Patriot Basketball program, Curran has been responsible for recruiting classes featuring five All-Conference performers, four Honorable Mention All-Conference performers, the Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year, back to back Conference Freshman of the Year winners, a two time NCCAA All-American, and several Academic Award winners. Coach Curran has extensive recruiting experience both domestically and internationally and has coached in camps and clinics all over the world. He has recruited and coached players from Lithuania, Slovakia, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Canada, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Panama.
Before joining DBU, Curran served as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for NCAA Division I member Centenary College. At Centenary, he was responsible for directing all aspects of the Gents recruiting, perimeter player development, and scouting. Curran's recruiting class at Centenary produced the Summit League Defensive Player of the year.
Prior to joining Centenary, Curran worked as the Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Jacksonville College (NJCAA) in Jacksonville, Texas, for four seasons. As the youngest Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director in NJCAA Division I, Curran’s team compiled a combined 51-42 record over his first three seasons in Jacksonville. Curran’s teams reached post season play in three of his four years as the head coach, and made five consecutive postseason tournament appearances during his seven seasons in Jacksonville (the second longest string of consecutive tournament appearances in the Region).
Before taking over as the Head Coach and Athletic Director at Jacksonville College, Curran served as the assistant men’s basketball coach for Jacksonville from 1998 to 2001. Curran’s first recruiting class took a team that had won five games in 1998-99 to a 20-10 record the following year. Curran organized all of the teams individual player development work, coordinated recruiting, implemented a strength and conditioning program, established the Annual Jacksonville College East Texas All Star Game, East Texas Senior Showcases, and ran the Jaguar Basketball Summer Camp Program. As the academic coordinator for the Jaguars, Curran saw every two-year sophomore earn their associate degree.
Curran began his coaching career at the University of Texas at Austin where he served as a student assistant under current University of Houston coach Tom Penders. That season, the Longhorns earned a trip to the NCAA tournament and advanced to the "Sweet Sixteen." After graduating from Texas, he joined the Galveston Storm of the Southwest Professional Basketball League as an assistant coach for the 1997-1998 campaign.
Curran played for Jacksonville College during the 1993-94 season where he helped the team advance to the Regional Championship game. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin (1997) and a Master of Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University in 2008.
Curran also teaches courses in the College of Business and the College of Education at DBU. He resides in Midlothian, Texas, with his daughter Emma and his wife Jennifer, who serves as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis coach at DBU.
