Jacob Phillips - Patriot Track & Field

Jacob Phillips is entering his fifth year as the Head Coach for the Dallas Baptist University Patriot Cross Country and Track Programs.  In his five years Phillips has coached over 50 NCCAA All-Americans and five National Champions.  Phillips also led both the Men’s and the Women’s Cross Country Teams to the 2007 Heartland Conference Cross Country Championship, the first ever for both programs. In 2008 the women repeated as Heartland Conference Cross Country Champions, while the men finished 2nd.

In Phillips’ first year, he coached eight NCCAA All-Americans and one National Champion, Katie Noss as she won the women’s 5000m NCCAA Outdoor Championship.  That same year the Patriot Women’s Distance Medley Relay (DMR) squad placed Runner-up at the NCCAA Indoor Championships.  In Phillips’ second year, the Patriots won the NCCAA National Championship in the Women’s DMR Indoors and Katie Noss repeated as the 2007 Women’s 5000m NCCAA Outdoor Champion.

From 2007 to 2009 the Lady Patriots Cross Country program has been nationally ranked in NCAA Division II; 24th in 2007, 22nd in 2008, and currently 24th in 2009.

Phillips, a three-year letter winner for the Patriots, has been a recipient of the NCCAA Athlete of the Week award for his cross country performance in 2005 and has been a two-time Track and Field National Qualifier.  Currently still training, Phillips’ ultimate goal will be to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in either the 5,000m or 10,000m run.

Growing up in Hull, Texas, and attending Hull-Daisetta High School, Phillips graduated the top ranked male from his high school class and received a full academic scholarship to Lamar University.  He completed his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from DBU in August of 2006 and is pursuing his Master of Education in Kinesiology.

Coach Phillips feels that coaching collegiate athletes is his calling from God and looks to pursue that with all of his energy. Phillips attends First Baptist Church of Duncanville.
