Decatur Baptist College 1908 College Champions 12-1 Overall Record |
Dallas Baptist University has enjoyed a long, storied tradition of
winning baseball with 31 consecutive winning seasons. As a past NAIA
member, DBU qualified for 10 NAIA World Series tournaments between
1984-2002, including two times National Champion-Runner Up in 1985 and
2000. DBU won back-to-back National Christian College Athletic
Association World Series in 2003 and 2004.
DBU has had over 125 players drafted or signed to professional
contracts, including 11 major leaguers. The third baseman of the
Pittsburgh Pirates, a 2006 MLB All-Star and the 2006 NL Batting Champion
Freddie Sanchez played at DBU in 1999, and shortstop of the Tampa Bay
Rays, Ben Zobrist played in 2004 (and was drafted by the Astros).
In their first four years of active membership at the NCAA Division I
level and competing as an Independent, DBU has a record of 138-85 and in
2008, received an at-large berth to a NCAA Regional (as a #2 seed),
which was a first for an Independent team in over 15 years.
DBU had a record seven players taken in the 2006 MLB draft, while four
more players were taken in the 2007 draft. DBU sent three players each
into the 2008 and 2009 draft and currently have 15 players in the minor
leagues. Victor Black was taken in the 2009 draft with the 49th overall
pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates, which is the highest in DBU Patriot
Baseball history.
In February of 2006, we completed construction of the Home of Champions
Patriot Clubhouse, a cornerstone phase of DBU Baseball's Vision for
Champions Campaign. The $750,000 project was funded by many generous
supporters of DBU Patriot Baseball. The Harold and Mildred Sadler
Patriot Clubhouse, a 4,000 square-foot colonial-styled athletic
fieldhouse, includes the Patriot Team locker room, academic study,
student-athlete den, coaches dressing suite, sports medicine room,
coaches' field office, equipment/ laundry room, umpires dressing suite,
and a remodeled indoor hitting facility. The Clubhouse will aid DBU in
continuing to attract quality, Christian baseball players from across
the nation to be a part of Patriot Baseball and its storied history and
bright future by building a nationally recognized championship baseball
program.
The DBU Patriot Baseball Team has launched the second phase of the DBU
Baseball's Vision for Champions Campaign in the summer of 2009, by
constructing a visitor's locker room and guesthouse adjacent to Patriot
Field. The 2,000 square-foot facility will compliment the
colonial/Georgian architectural style that is present throughout the
University campus and further provides in the comfort, hospitality, and
overall quality experience visiting baseball teams have when they travel
to play at Dallas Baptist University.
