Lady Patriots Soccer Advances to NCCAA Central Region Final

11/19/2009

The Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriot Soccer Team improved their overall season record to 9-10-1 on Thursday afternoon, as they defeated Colorado Christian University by way of penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie in the NCCAA Central Region Semi-Final game.

After a scoreless first half, Colorado Christian was able to take the 1-0 lead over the Lady Patriots in the 48th minute.  Senior Sarah Meierhofer quickly responded for the Lady Patriots with a goal only 45 seconds after to tie the game, 1-1.

Regulation play ended in 1-1 tie to force overtime.  The game was still deadlocked 1-1 after two ten minute overtime periods, sending the game winner to be determined by penalty kick shootout.  Each team chooses five players to represent them in a penalty kick shootout, in which each the teams alternate shooters, with the best of five made shots wins.

Colorado Christian was no match for DBU, as the Lady Patriots won, scoring four shots to Colorado Christian’s three to claim the victory.

The Lady Patriots are back in action on Saturday, November 21 ,  as they face MidAmerica Nazarene University in the NCCAA Central Region Final, with the winning team moving on to the NCCAA National Tournament, held in Kissimmee, Florida, on December 2-5.

Athlete Spotlight

Amanda Emmert
Defensive Specialist/ Outside Hitter
Lady Patriot Volleyball

Amanda Emmert is the Athlete Spotlight for the month of November.  Emmert is a Senior from Keller, Texas, and is a member of the 2009 Lady Patriots Volleyball Team.  Emmert is currently in her fourth season as a Lady Patriot and is scheduled to graduate in May of 2010 with a degree in Business Marketing.

Emmert was recruited as a freshman to play outside hitter for the Lady Patriots, but over time, she was formed into a libero roll for DBU.  She has excelled in this roll as she has received many honors playing this position including NCCAA First Team All-Region and Heartland Conference Libero of the Week on numerous occasions.

She led DBU in defensive digs during the 2008 season and is currently leading the Lady Patriots during the 2009 season.  Emmert is also leading the Lady Patriots in aces per match during the 2009 season.  Emmert has helped lead her team to a 10-12 record so far during the 2009 season.

“Amanda brings speed, heart, and athleticism to the defensive part of our game.  She is a great role model for our younger players, and is a great leader for all.  Amanda will always work hard and always goes above and beyond what she is asked.  She is a very competitive player and never gives up,” Head Coach Cathy Ray said.
