Lady Patriot Soccer Wins Second Straight

11/5/2009

The Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriot Soccer Team improved their overall season record to 8-10-1 on Thursday afternoon as they defeated the Lady Falcons from the University of Texas at the Permian Basin by the score of 1-0.

The first half turned out to be a defensive battle, as no goals were scored.  DBU was only able to muster two shots in the half, compared to UTPB’s 10.  Senior Emily Evans held strong in the net for the Lady Patriots in the half as she recorded three saves ending the scoreless half.

Junior Ally Bales for the Lady Patriots ended the games scoring drought as she placed a perfect shot past the Lady Falcon goalkeeper from 22 yards out to give DBU the lead in the 71st minute, 1-0.  The Lady Patriot defense, anchored by Freshman Andrea Hutchins, pushed away the UTPB attack to capture their second straight win in conference play.

The Lady Patriots end their regular season with an overall season record of 8-10-1, and finish with a 7-5 record in Heartland Conference play.

Athlete Spotlight

Amanda Emmert
Defensive Specialist/ Outside Hitter
Lady Patriot Volleyball

Amanda Emmert is the Athlete Spotlight for the month of October.  Emmert is a Senior from Keller, Texas, and is a member of the 2009 Lady Patriots Volleyball Team.  Emmert is currently in her fourth season as a Lady Patriot and is scheduled to graduate in May of 2010 with a degree in Business Marketing.

Emmert was recruited as a freshman to play outside hitter for the Lady Patriots, but over time, she was formed into a libero roll for DBU.  She has excelled in this roll as she has received many honors playing this position including NCCAA First Team All-Region and Heartland Conference Libero of the Week on numerous occasions.

She led DBU in defensive digs during the 2008 season and is currently leading the Lady Patriots during the 2009 season.  Emmert is also leading the Lady Patriots in aces per match during the 2009 season.  Emmert has helped lead her team to a 10-12 record so far during the 2009 season.

“Amanda brings speed, heart, and athleticism to the defensive part of our game.  She is a great role model for our younger players, and is a great leader for all.  Amanda will always work hard and always goes above and beyond what she is asked.  She is a very competitive player and never gives up,” Head Coach Cathy Ray said.
