ENGL 4319 (3-3-0) Introduction to Literary TheoryThis course is an introduction to major currents in contemporary literary theory and their practical application to the study of literature. Topics may include structuralism, New Criticism, deconstruction, psychoanalytic theory, gender theory, post-colonial theory, Marxist theory, and other relevant theoretical approaches to the study of literature. Emphasis is placed upon understanding the cultural relevance of literary theories and how Christians may use and respond to them in a Christ-like and redemptive manner. Fall, Spring.
Prerequisite: ENGL 2301 or 2302.
