Master of Arts in
Shelly Melia, Ph.D., Director
*PLEASE NOTE: This degree plan is for students who begin the program in the Summer 2015 Semester.
Ministry to preschoolers, children, and their families in today’s changing world is a unique challenge for the church and its leaders. The opportunity to create Bible study and ministry strategies that lay the foundation for children to grow, and to know, trust, love, and follow Jesus is more than what might be considered “child’s play.” It is eternally significant not only for the church of tomorrow, but for the church of today.
The Master of Arts in Children's Ministry is designed to equip children's ministers to understand the needs of children, explore the principles of the best strategies in teaching and reaching children, and implement ministry that impacts not only the child but the family. The program provides foundations in theological, educational, and practical programming for effective childhood ministry. It combines academic training and practical ministry application that focus intentionally on the world children live in and the faith they need to follow Christ for the rest of their lives.
This program consists of 18 hours of required core curriculum, and 18 hours of Children's Ministry curriculum, for a total of 36 hours.
"I was drawn to the Children's Ministry program because it is well known and highly recommended across the state. The program's length allows me to finish in a manageable time. The application process is another perk to the program, as it is very smooth and well laid out. My program director was willing to meet with me to talk over any concerns and questions. He was very helpful throughout the application process, as well as when it came time to register for classes. DBU has supplied me with numerous scholarship and grant opportunities to make paying for my master's manageable. I am excited to see what God has planned for me through my master's program at DBU." -Gina Williford
